Silent Cyber Security Initiative: the new "Manhattan Project"?

Evidently the US Government is responding to the dramatic increase in cyber attacks against its assets in the last fiscal year.  Depending on who you talk to the project is massive and calls for a dramatic reduction in points of access for attackers.  Here are some comments:

"BusinessWeek has learned the U.S. government has launched a classified operation called Byzantine Foothold to detect, track, and disarm intrusions on the government's most critical networks."

At a recent speech, DHS Secretary Chertoff commented on the initiative, saying "This is -- I don't want to overdo the analogy, but it would almost be like a Manhattan project to defend our cyber networks in the same way that we've undertaken previous efforts in the past to deal with emerging threats."

Internet Security blogger Bruce Schneier commented on this cyber initiative favorably by saying: "It can only help for the U.S. government to get its own cybersecurity house in order."
