GSC Guides UK's New Enterprise Framework

On 12 March 2008 the UK Government launched a new Enterprise Strategy:

"The Strategy's central vision is to make the UK the most enterprising economy in the world and the best place to start and grow a business. The strategy has been informed by extensive consultation over the last six months, with Ministers meeting more than 600 business leaders"

The GSC Team was invited last November to advise the UK government as part of its new enterprise framework. Hosted by UK's Chancellor Alistair Darling and Stephen Timms,UK Minister of State for Competitiveness, the attending government officials were particularly interested in our ideas about how government can influence the market by lowering the debt-risks for small startups and engaging with venture capitalists as experts in how to turn ideas into companies - all lessons we learned from daily interactions with "our" GSC security startups.

The announced strategy focuses on 5 main points:

  • Culture of enterprise - where everyone with entrepreneurial talent is inspired and not afraid to take up the challenge of turning their ideas into wealth.
  • Knowledge and skills - a lifelong journey for enterprise education
  • Access to finance - ensuring that our entrepreneurs have the knowledge, skills and opportunity to access finance
  • Regulatory framework -reducing the burdens of regulation without removing essential protections
  • Business innovation - ensuring that UK business is in position to capitalise on global trends
