Dual-Technology to Broaden Your Technology's Commercial Appeal

We at the GSC are strong advocates of dual-use technologies, by which we mean the application of emerging security technologies not only to government clients but commercial entities as well.

We wanted to note a recent example of how security technologies are being implemented in our every day lives.  The German retail chain, Metro Group, announced last week that they added fingerprinting technology to their automated check-out system. As Metro reported in their own words:

"Even greater convenience is provided by the state-of-the-art payment options, for instance the new Pay by fingerprint system. Customers merely need to place their finger onto a specially developed fingerprint scanner to pay for their purchases - without the need for any signature or PIN. Modern encryption algorithms make this an extremely secure method of payment."
