Imperial College London sets up new "Institute for Security Science & Technology"

Two announcements in the last weeks manifested Imperial College London's place on the map for security and defence research in the UK:

First, Sir Roy Anderson, the current Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Ministry of Defence was selected as new rector of Imperial College - one of Europe's leading research universities.

Then, on Tuesday, Sir Keith O'Nions was appointed to set up and develop a new Institute for Security Science and Technology at Imperial. Imperial's press release described the role of that new institute as follows:

"Under the leadership of Sir Keith, former Director General of Science and Innovation in the Government's Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, the Institute will bring together scientists and engineers at Imperial to develop novel ways of solving security problems in these areas."

Knowing Sir Keith a bit, we at the Global Security Challenge Team applaud his appointment and look forward to working with him and Sir Anderson on driving security research and commercialization in London.
