Global Security Challenge

GSC open-ed article in Biometric Technology Today: "Taking Innovation to Market"

The co-presidents of the Global Security Challenge, Simon Schneider and Janeen Chupa, wrote an article that was published in the August issue of Biometric Technology TodayHere is a short excerpt from this article, titled "Taking Innovation to Market":

"Many of today's security technology start-ups originated at universities. In fact, just over 40% of entries received in Global Security Challenge's annual US$500 000

competition come from universities. While this percentage seems high initially, it is not surprising, especially for biometric technologies, as they require years of basic research in labs and universities before reaching the prototype stage."

When talking about main challenges for biometric startups in particular, the article goes on stating that:

"This highlights two fundamental flaws in the growth process of a biometric SME - not fully understanding the customer needs, and failing to set realistic market expectations."
