Every technology startup needs to determine how big the market is that he is playing in. It forms a crucial part of every investment pitch to a venture capitalist. There are many estimates and forecasts to determine the market size of the worldwide security markets.  We assembled a few market statistics of the security and defence markets from credible research outfits.

  • Civitas Group from Washington DC stated in their 2006 report:  "We estimate that the total value of the global homeland security market addressable to the private sector in 2006 will be approximately $55 billion."

  • The Radicati Group forecasts that "the e-mail security market is expected to grow from $3.9 billion in 2008, to over $6.2 billion in 2012."

  • Ernst & Young's study for India's market forecasts that "The current defence market for private sector firms in India is estimated to grow by 7% annually from the current $700-million by 2010.

  • Gartner predicts that: "Worldwide security software revenue is expected to increase 10.7% to reach $9.1 billion in 2007"

  • ABI Research forecasts; "The worldwide video surveillance market is experiencing strong growth, and is foreseen to reach from about $13.5 billion in total revenues in 2006 to $46 billion in 2013."

  • IDC states that "The identity and access management (IAM) market will reach almost $4 billion by 2009."

  • Marketresearch.com calculates that: "The total UK security industry was worth an estimated £7 billion at current end-user prices in 2005, having grown by 3.2% on 2004."

  • China Public Security Publication conducted a market research and found that in 2008, the safety and security market size for China is estimated to be RMB160-180 billion (USD 21-24 billion) and will reach RMB300 billion (USD40 billion) by year 2020.

need to know the size of the global information security market.

The UK government agency, UKTI, wrote about the size of the security market it is latest SPRINGBOARD Magazine:
“The global market for security products and services is now estimated to be worth up to £150 billion, according to recent figures from Goldman Sachs.” UKTI Springboard Magazine, Winter 2010 issue (www.uktradeinvest.gov.uk)

The Size of the estimated world market for Homeland Security is measured in world Air space -which is ground, air, sea and or ocean including Space

simple answer - it is unlimited and Actionaire Innovators just get started and pick and area and join the project with a product and service combination toward a Solution with the Challenge that can be measured toward the goal of winning results.

Governmental spending on homeland security products and services are estimated to reach $141.6bn worldwide in 2009, says Visiongain, an independent research organisation in the UK in its recent report from June 2009. Their estimate leaves out the security spending by private sector organisations though. However, if we assume that the ratio between governmental and private spending has been stable of the past few years, we could use the same ratio that Civitas Group calculated in its respected 2006 report “THE HOMELAND SECURITY MARKET” (which showed private sector security spending to be 42% of government spending worldwide). Using this ratio and Visiongain's forecast, brings the estimated total size of the global security market to about $200 billion Dollars.
